what is it that you remember

First things first: I want an iPad.

There, I said it. I thought I didn't. I thought, 'you know, they're really cool, but I don't really have a need for it.' So. Very. Wrong. And here's why:

1. Cooking. We move around a lot, so cookbooks aren't really practical, and as nice as it is to be able to look up recipes on my phone or computer, I don't like to put my computer near the kitchen when I'm cooking (cause let's face it, I get a little messy. (Nathan will laugh at the "little" part of that statement.)) In the case of my phone, the little writing is so itty bitty that I can hardly read it anymore (obv I am BLIND,) and you wind up wiping off your hands every two seconds so you don't get your phone screen all slimy from moving it down to the next direction. The iPad is big enough that I would be able to 1) put it far enough away from me to not splatter it and still be able to read the text, 2) which means that I can fit several instructions on the screen before I have to wipe off my hands and swipe to the next page and 3) has some really cool-looking apps for making food that actually has pictures of what each ingredient and step is supposed to look like. (as an aside: this is one of my biggest pet peeve with cookbooks. I am not a trained chef, so when I don't know what a particular instruction means, I go to the glossary. Well, there are no pictures in the glossary, so then I have to look up the technique online. At this point, I've wasted 10 minutes when I should already be done mixing. It's a travesty.)

2. Music. I mostly hate turning pages, holding my folder to read out of...pretty much anything that has to do for sheet music. I have no attachment to music books/pages like I do to books and their pages. Plus, I don't read music for hours on end (or...I don't anymore, since I've graduated. This might not be true for people who sing/play more often than I do.) If I could have my piano and/or vocal music on the screen, I can swipe to the next page. It can't get stuck together or fall backwards because I haven't quite snapped the spine in two from years and years of use. Y'all know what I'm talking about. Or if I could actually use it to arrange/write on Finale...like, if they had a touch-screen application where you can just drop and drag the notes around with your fingers? Ooooohhhh, the applications. I'm wiggling with anticipation.

Now, in addition to these two very important aspects of my life, I would probably use it for reading, even though I wouldn't want to. I love my kindle. LOVE. It's so much better to carry around than books, but my favorite thing about it is that it is NOT a mini-computer. When I have it out, I'm not tempted to go surf the web or play around on facebook. It is simple another method to get books into my brain. Plus, it's got the cool magnetic technology that isn't hard on your eyes, like computer screens are. These are the reasons I purchase my Kindle, instead of one of the other eReaders on the market. One thing I am not terribly in love with, however, is the book searching user interface on the device itself. Searching on Amazon for texts isn't bad, but on the Kindle itself, it turns out to be more of a hassle than anything else, so I wind up just reading what I have or going off to do something else (especially if I'm near a computer. True story.) So iBooks? A freakin' godsend. If could have iBooks on my Kindle (plus that awesome little bookshelf user interface,) I would be one happy camper.

So there it is folks. I have a need for an iPad. Or, justifications for my WANT of an iPad. Smiley face.

Also, I downloaded FotoTimer Lite for my iPhone today and now I can take full-body pics so much more easily. I kept meaning to look for an app like this, but never got around to it. It is awesome.

TPTP for today: Express Teal Sweater (a different one...yes, I have two of basically the same thing, so sue me,) Kahkis, Black Flats w/ Zipper Detailing and Long, Gold Twin Leaf Necklace. And it's definitely a ponytail day...because it was so hard to get out of bed this morning.

They threatened lots of snow for this afternoon/evening. Like, snow that stays on the ground. I'm excited!
