Happy Birthday!

...to Edgar Allan Poe. A man so famous (infamous?) that multiple cities try to claim his death/burial/birthplace/livingplace/writingplace. He is fancy, huh?

So I played around with my new curling iron last night (they did leave it in front of the apartment, thank goodness,) and despite my ineptitude at doing my own hair, and all the wishy-washy reviews I saw on Amazon, it works rather well! My left side (the easy side) turned out really nicely. I have yet to figure out how to curl my right side (the hard side and the side with more hair, because of where my part lies, of course,) but thinking about it last night, I came to the conclusion that I may just have to learn to hold the curling iron in my left hand and twirl with my right. Because I think the problem is that the larger part of the barrel needs to be at the top of the curl.

It's funny, because the reviews I read were all saying that this was good for someone with thicker, longer hair. My hair is pretty long (past my shoulders,) but it isn't really very thick. It's very fine and wispy, it always has been. But what I found is that because my hair is so fine, the heat comes through the other hair and curls the whole strand that I put on the iron, even if i twirl the hair around itself on the curling iron. It gets real hot, real fast, and it curled my hair just fine on the lowest setting. I dunno what everyone else was talking about. Once I can actually figure out how to curl the right-hand side, I'll post pictures of the result. But I already like it sooooo much better than the clippy kind of curling iron. Hooray!

I was going to meal plan for the rest of the week, but the problem with trying to meal plan right now is that we have no food in the house. I mean...we have soup mix. And onions and carrots. You know...for soup! Soup is not my favorite kind of meal, because as much as I enjoy eating soup, I'm usually hungry again an hour later, no matter how much soup I eat. My stomach has never been very good with liquid food consumption. Smoothies and soups both -- make me full fast, but then I'm hungry very soon after. Hopefully we'll get to the market tonight, after work. So I can start making real food again. Yum!

Dinner last night was spaghetti with veggie-laden sauce and roasted cinnamon sugar and basil sweet potatoes. Next time, less cinnamon sugar, more basil. They were, of course delicious, but more dessert-like than anything else. Oh well, you cook, you learn.
