Y'all, Nate should be thanking me, because I am giving us stomachs of steel.
And I should be pummeling him, because he is trying to de-rail all our weight loss goals.
Not really, but here's the low-down. We get our meat items from a...uhm...cheap, tiny Asian market. This means that things are really fresh but maybe not as clean as they would be at a major grocery stores and therefore, start smelling funky before I feel a similar product from, say, Safeway or QFC, would. However, I tend to barrel forward, and unless something has mold or smells like death, I'mma cook it anyway. That being said, we bought meat last week, and we don't freeze things because we have no microwave to defrost anything, and I'm too hungry when I get home to have it sit out on the counter to do so. Therefore, everything sits in the fridge. And with me not feeling well last week, things sat in the fridge longer than they normally do, so the salmon smelled a little funky when I dumped it out of its plastic bag and into the skillet last night. Cover it in Catalina sauce, and I told Nate, 'if is tastes funny once it's cooked, we just won't eat it.'
It tasted fine. We had it with peas and brown rice. Noms.
After dinner, we were both craving sweet. Since Nate had taken all this time to put a bunch of recipes from various places (his sister had sent him a bunch of family recipes in an e-mail a while ago, so he was sorting through those,) into Evernote to keep them organized, we decided to make one of them. I wanted chocolate, but didn't want just chocolate chip cookies, so we decided on peanut butter cookies with chocolate chips in them! Because really, what could possibly be better than chocolate and peanut butter. Not much.
Nate wound up making them smaller than he normally would (the recipe called for 1" balls, rolled in sugar, then smushed with a fork, so he rolled them into about 1/2" balls and skipped the 'rolling them in sugar' part. Because of the chocolate chips, of course,) and cooked them for a few minutes less than the recipe stated. Oh. Em. Gee. These cookies are so good. They're almost bite-sized...which is bad. We ate an entire cookie sheet in about five minutes flat. And then fell over and clutched our over-full bellies while we rolled on the floor. Sooooo good. Totally worth the stomach pains.
Yummy! He's my personal baker. And I'm his personal chef. It's a trade off, you see. I'll wrestle the recipe away from him, and post it up here. Because seriously...these cookies are uh-maze-ing.
It is alternately sunny and raining here in Seattle and it's driving me nuts. The mountains looked pretty cool over the sound this morning, though, with the light being filtered through the clouds hanging above them. But really? I'd be ok with clear skies. The mountains are still pretty that way.
I found a couple places in Seattle that offer free yoga/workout classes on the weekends, two of which are about a 20 minute walk from the apartment. One is actually less than a mile, so I could probably jog that, do free yoga, then jog home. The other one is LuLuLemon, which is in the same mall that Nate works in. They have free pilates Sunday mornings for the month of February. Hoorah!
Somewhat unfortunately, the YMCA downtown doesn't offer free classes. Only the one that serves Northshore, and it's too far away to walk. Phooey =(
Anybody know of other places in Seattle/Nationwide that offer free classes? (I will for serious need them when we get done devouring these cookies.)
